Hecky’s Lechon
Hecky’s Lechon was first started in 1996 with a name “Cagayan de Oro Lechon”. It was put up by Hector “Hecky” Tabuena together with some of his cousins. The company was the first in the country to use lechon ovens full time. Cagayan de Oro Lechon catered only made-to-order and whole order deliveries.
The company permanently closed on October 2004 due to Mr. Tabuena’s passing, but on October 2005, Hector Tabuena’s children: Patrick Ian, Catherine Therese and Maria Carla – headed by Catherine’s husband, Richard Dijamco – decided to open “Hecky’s lechon”, under the company Hectagold Food Enterprise, Co. (which was recently changed to Hectagold Food Enterprise Corporation), in honor of their late father – formulating a new recipe and improving the techniques, thus making their lechon Cebu-style.
Hecky’s Lechon offers Cebu-style Lechon, but is not exactly roasted the “Cebu way”. They are the first to use LPG-based lechon ovens, making their lechon non-carcinogenic. The Hecky’s Lechon customized ovens – invented by the late founder – uses gas and convection to cook their lechons. These gas-powered lechon ovens enable to literally melt that fat away, leaving the skin crispier, juicier and tastier even without any lechon sauce. Hecky’s Lechons are also organic. They only roast hand-picked native free range pigs that eat the best that nature has to offer, such as coconut meat and corn. Because of that, they came up with their slogan, “It’s the healthier choice!”.
With its unique lechon roasting technique and “secret” recipe, Hecky’s Lechon guarantees a wonderfully tasteful satisfaction that is different from any other lechons offered around the country.
