Island Souvenirs was first established in 1992 by founder and chief executive Jay Aldeguer. Using some of his earnings from his T-Shirt business in college and some help from his parents, he started the business with an initial capitalization of only P200,000.  Using cart made from bamboo, Aldeguer began selling the shirts at the White Golden Department Store in Cebu.  After six months, Cebu’s top department stores, the Gaisanos, offerd him an 80 sqm. space.   By his second year, sales zoomed more than 300 percent and growing at a double digit pace for the next years.

A novel idea for its time, Island Souvenirs broke the traditional hold of small, cottage industry type retailers of poor quality souvenirs and craved out a new market niche for premium quality souvenirs creatively designed and showcased in vibrant shopping environments.

Thus, from a single store in the island of Cebu, Island Souvenirs has grown to a network of over a hundred outlets across the Philippines as well as internationally.
