Swan Bakeshop
The Swan Bakeshop Corporation was conceived by the late Nieves “Eveng” de Leon-Cruz, and Josefina “Nena” Cruz Jacinto in 1965. What started out as a mere hobby for mother and daughter, grew into a successful family business enterprise.
This endeavor that they have initiated has also resulted to contributions as far as the evolution of the design of wedding cakes in the Philippines is concerned. Forerunners of trends in cake appearances like; difference in sizes (pioneer of the “big” cakes), internationally inspired themes, traditional or modern, The Swan Bakeshop Corporation has always been a name to reckon with. It has also been very innovative with its cake configurations. Take frostings as an example, from the traditional royal icing, or the tempting chocolate icings and now to the famous fondant icing The Swan Bakeshop Corporation is up to date with these cake design technologies and can even boast a few of their own. And since all of these started from the Cruz’s kitchen, worthy of mention is its original home recipes, tried and tested through the years. Their delicious cakes and pastries which was then served for desert or merienda started getting numerous requests for orders. To name a few favorites of their famous creations are the Ensaymadas, Sans-Rival, Pianono, Inipit, Toffee Cake, Empanada, Chicken Pie and a lot more.
Worthy of mention is the Coconut ‘Buko’ Pie by The Swan Bakeshop Corporation. It is also classified as an all-natural food for it does not contain any additives such as food colorings or artificial flavor and preservatives. In May 1999, the “Coconut Pie” to introduced the world market. It was launched in the Intermedia Center of Sydney, Australia. Presided no less than the Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fisher of Australia and our Philippine Ambassador to Australia, Dominga Albert. This magnificent pie is presently being exported to to the U.S. It is available locally but only in selected outlets.
In the late seventies, Nena Jacinto diversified the operations of The Swan Bakeshop Corporation. Mindful of the potential growth in the food service industry and blessed with the needed competencies to effectively run such a business, she opened the Swan Catering Service Corporation. It is a reflection of her persona, Nena, a perfectionist, meticulous in every detail and an embodiment of a mother to everyone. With her culinary expertise and innovations it remains as one of the respected and recognized caterers in the country today.
